Vintage Clothes are tiny..but I'm not!

Does anyone else have this issue? You find an amazing vintage dress, it's in great condition, even the price is reasonable..and then you pull out the ol' tape measure and lo and behold, the waist on the dress is 26 inches.

I hate that! It happens to me all the time, and to make matters worse the shop owner of the shop I like to frequent will pick out things for me and set them aside, and when I go in he says, "oh, I know this will fit you, it'll look great!" and guess what- it's waaaaay too small. I guess it's nice that he thinks I'm that much smaller than I am, but dang! (Ok, truth be told, sometime I buy dresses that are too small with the intention of losing weight..hehe.)

How's that for some tiny waists?

That was part of the reason I started making vintage repro- I was just too big to fit in those teeny waist sizes. After I lost weight ( I used to be well over 200 lbs!) it was easier to find sizes, but I still loved doing it.

Since the holidays, I have gotten a bit..plump, shall we say? So I've decided to start the South Beach Diet ( I lost an insane amount of weight when I used to eat that way) and working out regularly. It's day 4, and so far I've lost 4 pounds! The hard part for me I think is the no drinking. I'm not a lush by any means but I do love a good dirty martini while lounging around in the evening.

Have any of you lost weight for vintage? How did you do it? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people should be any certain size, but for me I feel yucky in my current shape.

I'd love to hear any tips or tricks you ladies have- or maybe you're one of those lucky ones that eat what they want and never gain weight, haha!

Hello Betties!

Hello all my Betties! Yes, tis true, I decided to make the leap further into technology and join the blogging world.

I recently quit my full time retail management job to focus on Rockabillybettie's Retro Re-Do, which for those who don't know is my Etsy and Facebook shop where I make and sell 1950s reproduction clothing. ( I take custom orders too!) That may seem crazy to some, but it seemed crazy to me to go to a job I hate day after day, where I had to dress like a schlub and deal with men asking me creepy questions about the adult novelty products in the back corner rather than devote myself to what I love to do and try to get somewhere with it. It's the American dream, right? Hee hee.

I'll give you a bit of back story:

I have been sewing and designing since I was a little kid. It started with Barbie clothes, of course, because I thought Barbie really could do with a more tailored look. Then I moved on to making my own clothes- I have been a thrift store junkie since I was 13, and I loved vintage clothes. But finding them to fit a 13 year old didn't always work so I would construct my own by upcycling things. From there I just kept going, and improving..until eventually here I am making Nifty Fifties repros!

I should mention, too, that if it weren't for my wonderful mummsy who patiently taught me to sew I never would have even ventured in this territory!

OK, that's enough of that- I don't want to bore you all to death.

So anywho, here I am at home with my kids making clothes and cleaning and cooking and feeling all domestic and even finding time for this blog business- life is good! Thanks to all my supporters, and welcome to all my new friends! Stick around- I have a lot in store for you dolls in the New Year!
